Hyundai Creta: A first look at the second-gen Creta!

Only last week, Hyundai Motor Group took the wraps off the India-bound second-gen Creta, which is set to hit your nearest Hyundai showrooms on 17 March 2020. As reported by us last week, the new Creta – just like its predecessor – is based on the China-spec ix25, although it does bear a few styling changes.

Compared to the older Creta, however, this one is a completely new model. While the older Creta had a simplistic design, this one has a radical look, which might not please all the consumers. There’s, of course, a huge cascading grille up front flanked by split-headlamps with slit-like LED DRLs. Faux skid plates and prominent arches add well to the SUVs character. The 17-inch wheels are all-new, with a busier design. The rear, just like the front, also gets split treatment for the taillamps.

At the Auto Expo 2020, Hyundai didn’t reveal much about the interiors of the new Creta. In fact, the interiors were hidden with the help of blackened windows. But, one sneak peek through the blackened windows revealed a huge landscape-oriented touchscreen, a four-spoke steering wheel, a fully-digital instrument cluster, a revamped dashboard layout, and new upholstery for the leatherette seats. What’s more? Have a look down below.

Specifications

When it comes to the overall specifications, the all-new Creta appears to be marginally longer and wider than the ongoing model, although, it’s marginally lower than the first-gen Creta. Add to that a panoramic sunroof on top, and the new Creta might score low on headroom space. The design, as discussed above, is now bold and radical, and might not be pleasing to all the audiences. Still, it’s a huge departure from the Creta that we’ve seen earlier.

As for the engines, the Creta is expected to be powered by the 1.5-litre engines we’ve seen under the hood of the Seltos. For those unaware, there’s a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol which is good for 114bhp and 144Nm of torque. On the other hand, is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit which makes 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both the engines are BS-VI compliant. A 6-speed manual is a standard fit for both, while a CVT automatic and a torque converter automatic is optional for the petrol and diesel, respectively.

Hyundai might also bring the Seltos’ 1.4-litre T-GDI unit with the Creta, which is good for 138bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine, too, is BS-VI compliant and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic.

Mileage

Since there’s not much difference in the size and engine-gearbox options in comparison to the Seltos, we expect the Creta to be as fuel-efficient as its sibling. For those unaware, the Seltos is actually frugal in comparison to the older Creta. For the detailed mileage-wise breakdown, head to autoX.

Features

The 2020 Hyundai Creta will be far better equipped than the older one if the Seltos’ equipment list is anything to go by. What we know so far, the top-spec variants of the Creta will get a panoramic sunroof, a fully-digital instrument cluster, a huge touchscreen display, wireless charging, air purifier, and leatherette upholstery. Expect the usual features like push-button start, keyless entry, electronically adjustable and retractable wing mirrors, and climate-control to make a cut too.

The talking point, however, is the Blue Link connectivity suite, which will also be updated with the Creta, as Hyundai officials said during the unveiling at the Auto Expo 2020. The new Creta also gets LED headlamps, cornering lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, and LED taillamps as far as exteriors are concerned.

Colours

There’s no official confirmation on the Creta’s shades as of now. Expect a variety of shades with a number of dual-tone ones too. The black shade showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 looks fresh and suits the radical design too.
