The Use of the Clutch Control and Learning

Many can’t control the clutch (especially at the start), sometimes the car dies, etc.  For those who are learning to drive, the first major difficulty to deal with is friction. Understanding the use of the clutch is very important to drive properly:

The clutch is essential in the start, because a good use of clutch and accelerator allows you to start quickly without making the machine die. In the uphill start, the difficulty of having to check the brake is added.

The clutch is also important when driving, because even when you change gears, you need to be able to coordinate the clutch and accelerator pedals well. Otherwise the machine will make ‘jerks’ that are not very pleasant to hear, or the clutch could wear out. The use of the Driving lessons Manchester comes perfect here.

To be able to control the clutch it takes a bit ‘of time and you have to practice a lot ; it is therefore a normal thing that, despite having made many guides, sometimes the machine dies, or in any case there are still difficulties with the clutch. Only with a lot of exercise you will develop the necessary sensitivity and the right coordination of the pedals.

Feel the detachment point of the clutch

Feeling the point of detachment of the clutch is essential to be able to start correctly and quickly, without running the risk of ‘dying’ the machine. The point of detachment of the clutch identifies it thus:

Turn on the car and put first gear, keep the left foot on the clutch, the right foot resting on the ground

Lift your left foot from the clutch pedal slowly, until you feel the pedal begin to “vibrate” (under the foot at some point you should clearly hear the pedal that makes a sort of sound; not very strong, but anyway perceptible). That is the point of detachment. The vibration you feel serves to warn you that if you lift the pedal a little, the car will die (unless you give it gas).

Tricks to better feel the clutch of the car and learn first when it comes off

To better feel the detachment point (the ‘vibration’) of the clutch, try doing this

Choose the right footwear : as long as you are learning to drive, avoid wearing all those types of shoes that can give you problems with the clutch: high heels, or too smooth soles can make you slip on the pedal; too thick soles (rafts, amphibians, etc.) prevent you from feeling the vibration of the clutch well. The ideal is to wear a pair of normal sneakers.

Lift the clutch pedal by holding it only with the tip of your left foot

In this way you should be able to feel the “vibration” better. This trick is also useful when you get on a new car, which you don’t know, to better understand when it comes off the clutch.

Remember that every car is different: some cars have a ‘ high ‘ clutch (that is, the detachment point is quite forward, you have to lift your foot more to hear it), while others have it ‘ low ‘ (it starts very early, you don’t need to lift your foot so much). Your car may be different from the driving school one, so you have to get used to ‘feeling’ the clutch, you can’t do things automatically or by memory, otherwise you risk making mistakes.
